THE DEVIL'S TAIL

WRITTEN BY TIM SWADDLING

Walkin’ down the tracks, stars refuse to shine
If I keep on walkin’, I'm gonna lose my mind
She'll tell you one thing, don’t believe what she say
She’s a trickin' mother 'fuyer, she never gives it away
What have I done to treat me the way you do?
Feel like your prisoner an’ I been steppin’ on the devil’s tail too

None of the cards you’re holdin’ are worth a damn
If you don’t get a chance to play your hand
Dyin’ on the vine, like all things do in the fall
Feel like a ghost, like I was never here at all
What have I done to treat me the way you do?
Feel like your prisoner an’ I been steppin’ on the devil’s tail too

Well I'm lost somewhere, tryin’ to hold onto my youth
I keep lookin for it at the bottom of a glass of gin an' juice
I feel like gettin’ out, find me a blade to cut the fence
Look deeper into my eyes if you ain’t convinced
What have I done to treat me the way you do?
Feel like your prisoner an’ I been steppin’ on the devil’s tail too

She's give sugar for sugar, but it's salt for salt
She keeps her finger on the trigger, my heart locked up in her vault
I can hear the steel rails callin' me
Heading out of this town on the ol' C.P.
What have I done to treat me the way you do?
Feel like your prisoner an’ I been steppin’ on the devil’s tail too
